Nayanathara vs Dhanush feud unravelled in open letter ahead of her Netflix docu release- The Week
Actress Nayanthara has posted an open letter after Dhanush sent a legal notice over her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
In the letter, she said Dhanush has been harbouring vengeance over the use of clips from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. This comes after Dhanush demanded Rs 10 crore as compensation for using clips from the 2015 movie without permission.
The documentary shows Nayanthara’s beginnings in the Malayalam industry and how she became today’s “lady superstar” in the Tamil industry. It will also feature actors like Taapsee Pannu, Rana Daggubati and Nagarjuna Akkineni speaking about her. It will stream on Netflix on November 18.
Nayanthara pointed out that unlike Dhanush, who has support and blessings of close family in the industry, she is a self-made woman with no links in Kollywood. She asserted that he stature in Tamil film industry is due to her work ethic.
She said Dhanush’s vengeful action not only affects her and her partner but also others who worked for the project. She said many producers graciously ready to allow her to use clips from their movies but pointed out that the “most special and important” film for her was Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
She recalled that she had struggled for two years for an no-objection certificate from Dhanush for the Netflix documentary release but they gave up and settled for the current version after he declined to allow use of songs from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
She pointed out that if it was due to business compulsions or monetary issues she would understand but alleged that Dhanush denied permission due to his personal grudge against her and her partner.
Dhanush reportedly demanded Rs 10 crore for a three-second video showing visuals shot on personal devices that were already published on social media. Addressing Dhanush, she said, “Your refusal to give NOC for use of elements of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan for our NetFlix documentary might be justified by you to the Courts from the copyright angle, but I wish to remind you that there is a moral side to it, which has to be defended in the court of God.”
She added that it has been almost a decade since Naanum Rowdy Dhaan released and it is a long time for someone to continue being vile while wearing a mask in front of the world. “I have not forgotten all the horrible things you said about the film that was one of your biggest hits as a producer and a film that is loved by all even today.”
Nayanthara’s husband Vignesh Shivan has shared an old video of Dhanush, showing the actor talking about “Live and let live.” In the caption, Vignesh wrote, “Vaazhu Vaazha udu #spreadLove #OmNamaShivaya at-least for the sake of some innocent die hard fans who believe all of this ! I sincerely pray to God ! For People to change and find happiness in other people’s happiness.”
The clip from 2017 was taken during the audio launch of 2017 film, Sakka Podu Podu Raja. In the video, Dhanush says, “The love we have for one should turn into hate for another. If it changes, there is no meaning for that emotion.”
He adds that the world is going towards a pathetic condition and there is so much negativity. “Nobody likes it if another person is doing good in life. Live and let live. Nobody should hate another person. If you like somebody, celebrate with them. If you don’t like somebody, just move on,” he added.
