Delhi turns into gas chamber, Supreme Court orders closure of schools up to 10-12 in Delhi-NCR

New Delhi. The condition of the country's capital Delhi is suffering due to air pollution. Delhi has been transformed into a gas chamber. At present, people are suffocating in Delhi due to pollution. Experts have warned that at present there is poison equal to 49 cigarettes mixed in the air of Delhi. In view of this, the Supreme Court held a hearing and also reprimanded the people responsible. Following the request made by the petitioner's lawyer, the court has ordered that now classes 10th and 12th in Delhi NCR will be online. Till now children were going to school through physical medium.

AQI crosses 1000 in many areas, now classes closed

The condition of Delhi NCR has become so bad that in many areas the AQI level has crossed 1000. In view of this, an order was given to implement GRAP-4 in the capital and now the order has come to make the classes of school children of 10th and 12th online also. However, today a meeting related to the implementation of GRAP-4 has also been cancelled. It was organized by Delhi's Environment Minister Gopal Rai, but the meeting was canceled due to non-availability of officials from various departments. However, Minister Rai had sent orders to those officers to rejoin.

All states of NCR should strictly implement GRAP-4

The Supreme Court has directed all the states of NCR to strictly implement Phase 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Along with this, the Court has ordered all the states of NCR to immediately constitute teams which will monitor the necessary works under GRAP Phase 4. The Supreme Court has asked the Center and all the NCR states to immediately take a decision on the steps mentioned in GRAP-4 and present it before the court before the next hearing. Additionally, the states of Delhi and NCR have been directed to create a grievance redressal mechanism so that violations of GRAP-4 rules can be reported.

'Do not remove GRAP-4 without asking even after AQI comes below 450'

The Supreme Court has also said that GRAP-4 will continue until the court gives any further orders, even if the air quality index falls below 450. State and central governments have also been directed to file compliance reports. The Supreme Court has said that it is the constitutional responsibility of governments to ensure that citizens live in a pollution-free environment. Apart from all the provisions of GRAP-3 and GRAP-4, the Supreme Court has directed the government to take all necessary steps to normalize the situation.
