Kapil Dev drops a truth bomb on Pakistan and Champions Trophy
Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev discussed the ICC Champions trophy locations and the likelihood of an India Pakistan match while maintaining the ‘politics’ angle in such matters. Meanwhile, reacting to the same issue, Kapil Dev also said, “It’s for the government to take. People like us shouldn’t say anything, our saying does not count. Kapil Dev is no more grand as others.” Earlier today, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday issued an announcement of the global Trophy Tour with regards to the Championship Men’s Trophy 2025 which will take place in Pakistan.
This came after the ICC pulled the plug on the trophy tour for the PoJK region in India.
In fact, the BCCI has taken objection to the Champions Trophy tour of the Pakistan Cricket Board in areas in the context of the Indian conflict over the Kashmir such as Skardu, Hunza and Muzaffarabad, which are encompassed in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.
Referring to internal sources of BCCI, ANI reported that Secretary Jay Shah forcefully objected to the announcement made by PCB and requested ICC to take appropriate measures. The announcement for the tour was made by the PCB without prior discussion which led to the stiff resistance from the BCCI.
The tour therefore was later cancelled by the ICC and a revised schedule was issued omitting the cities in PoJK from the tour.
The famous sites where the trophy will be showcased on the first day of its journey in Islamabad include Daman-e-Koh, Faisal Mosque, and the Pakistan Monument which will be joined by ex-pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.
This will kick start the international Trophy Tour for the silverware, with a view to enhance a participatory engagement for the different global audiences through vibrant and colorful engagements reflecting the event’s new visual identity.
London, with its famed culture and history, will be the last stop for the tour preceding an exhaustive cross-country promotion of the Trophy which will still have plenty of cultural undertones, owing to the varied nations that will be taking part in it.
“There are many activities and experiences, both real and virtual, that take place at various destinations, sporting activities, and other important events within the global games of cricket, all of which make up the Trophy Tour program,” the ICC noted in its response. “Fans will also enjoy a series of contents styled lived as ‘Champion on Tour,’ which will highlight the journeys of the trophy tour from country to country through cuisine, music, cricket, and other unique aspects,” the statement further explained.
Anurag Dahiya, the Chief Commercial Officer of ICC, expressed delight with the inauguration of the event and stated as quoted from ICC, “We are glad to embark upon the Trophy Tour with DP World prior to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy, where yet again a thrilling line-up of activities awaits sports fans all over the globe.”
He proceeded to explain what the fans would experience in the event and stated, “The T20 World Cup Trophy silverware, which will be exhibited in all supporting nations, will give the sports loving people an opportunity of getting close to the coveted trophy like never before.”
