He says that GM policy should be discussed in the winter session, so that a comprehensive policy can be made keeping all the aspects in mind. All India General Secretary of the Union Mohini Mohan Mishra said that in July 2024, the Supreme Court had directed the Central Government to, after consultation with farmers, agricultural scientists, state governments and consumer organizations. Make policy on GM crops.

The court had asked to discuss aspects like environment, health, import-export, labeling and public awareness in the policy. But till now the government has not taken opinion from farmers or other stakeholders. Bharatiya Kisan Sangh believes that GM crops are not necessary for the country and can be harmful for the environment, biodiversity and farmers.

Citing the example of BT cotton, the union said it has proved harmful for many farmers and there have been cases of suicides induced by it. The association says India needs a less mechanized farming system, not GM-based farming. The association also alleged that the government was planning to allow GM crops without adequate studies, which could have adverse effects on the environment and health.

He said that this policy will be against the interests of farmers and the general public. Raghavendra Singh Patel, publicity head of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, said that through the memorandum, MPs have been requested to discuss the GM policy in the winter session and make it safe and in the interest of farmers. The farmers' union has warned the government that any policy made without consultation can prove fatal for the future of farmers and the environment. Now it remains to be seen what action the government takes on this.
