Sudhir Dandotia, Bhopal. Despite having the highest forest cover in the country, the level of pollution in Madhya Pradesh is increasing. The increasing amount of pollution in the air is due to road dust, vehicles and industries as well as stubble. The situation has become such that Madhya Pradesh has left even Punjab and Haryana behind in stubble burning. From September 15 to November 14, 2024, the highest number of incidents of stubble burning in the country, 8,917, were recorded in the state. This has come to light from the satellite data of incidents of stubble burning released by the Agricultural Engineering Department, Bhopal.

Among the incidents of stubble burning that were reported in Madhya Pradesh between 15 September and 14 November 2024, maximum 489 were recorded in Sheopur. While 275 incidents took place in Jabalpur, about 150 incidents each were recorded in districts like Gwalior, Narmadapuram, Satna, Datia. This data is more than the leading states in agriculture like Punjab and Haryana. Delhi CM Atishi claimed that the incidents of stubble have reduced only in Punjab.
