Will artificial rain save us from the poisonous air of Delhi? Delhi government writes letter to Center, appeals to PM Modi to intervene

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding artificial rain to reduce pollution. Meanwhile, after the order of the Supreme Court, all the schools in Gurugram, Faridabad and Delhi have been shifted online. GAP-4 rules are also applicable. Gopal Rai said that there is air pollution in the entire North India for the last three days. People are finding it difficult to breathe. Grape-4 rules apply. To reduce vehicular pollution, we have imposed restrictions on private and commercial vehicles. Now the time has come to make artificial rain in Delhi to break the blanket of smog and save people from pollution.

Gopal Rai said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a moral duty to intervene in this matter, hence he has appealed to the Center to call an emergency meeting on Tuesday.

Gopal Rai said, “Pollution is increasing due to the combination of three components, which include stubble, firecrackers and smoke emanating from vehicles. Because due to festivals, the number of vehicles has increased on the road, which is creating traffic jams. The real-time source super site created by the Delhi government in collaboration with IIT Kanpur displays various sources in hot spot areas.

Targeted at the central government

In the press conference, he said that the Delhi government has repeatedly sought permission from the Center for artificial rain, but the Center has not done so. Presently the BJP government is sitting in such a center that despite continuous writing of letters and appeals, the minister does not have time to call a meeting. If such an appeal had been made to a minister of any other country, he too would have held a meeting. He said that he will write a letter again to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav in this regard.

The minister said, “Last year, during the emergency situation, we had held a meeting with experts from IIT. He gave a presentation on artificial rain. There was less time then, so this year we started preparing for it from August itself. I had also made a request in the online meetings held in August and October, but no meeting was held for this.

He said, “Grape (Graded Response Action Plan) phase four restrictions are in place in Delhi and we are taking all possible steps to reduce vehicular and industrial pollution. A ban has been imposed on the entry of private vehicles and trucks with the aim of reducing the number of vehicles entering the city.

“If the central government cannot take action then their (environment) minister should resign,” he said, adding that the Delhi government has not responded to the request to allow artificial rain and call an emergency meeting on the serious pollution situation in the city. .

He also called upon Prime Minister Modi to intervene in this matter and said that it is his moral responsibility. He said he would write an additional letter to Yadav urging him to call an emergency meeting.

The Delhi government is ready to work with the central government, but the Center should take the lead by convening a meeting of experts from IIT Kanpur who have done extensive research on artificial rainfall. For this, permission and cooperation of various central departments is required.

Medical emergency in Delhi

Gopal Rai said, “Today there is a situation of medical emergency. There are only two solutions: either strong wind blows or rain. Artificial rain is made in many countries of the world. Today it is sad that there is such a government at the Center whose Environment Minister does not have time to call a meeting. After the meeting it will be decided whether there will be artificial rain or the central government will give permission, but the Union Environment Minister does not have time to call a meeting. If such a letter had been written to the minister of any other country, he would have also called a meeting.

How is artificial rain made?

A technique called cloud seeding is used to create artificial rain. In this technique salt particles like silver iodide and chloride are sprayed on the clouds; For this, special aircraft, rockets or special equipment located on the ground are used. Due to this, moisture is also drawn in, it thickens and takes the form of water drops and it falls as rain. This is an attempt to create artificial rain by changing the natural evolution of clouds.
