Manimahesh is the abode of Shiva
It is believed that Lord Shiva resides on the Kailash peak of Manimahesh, which is clearly visible from this lake. The pilgrimage to Manimahesh takes place every year, usually in the month of August or September, on the occasion of the Hindu festival Janmashtami. It is believed that this journey started in the 9th century, when a local king Sahil Varman had a vision of Lord Shiva. After which he directed to establish a temple on Manimahesh Lake.
Bathing takes place on Janmashtami
In this religious pilgrimage, a small royal bath is organized on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami while the royal bath will be organized on Radha Ashtami i.e. 11th September.

- Devotees will have to carry their medical certificate during the journey.
- The climb has to be done slowly, stop and rest when you get out of breath and then proceed further.
- Carry an umbrella, warm clothes, sturdy shoes, flashlight and walking stick.
- Follow the route prescribed by the administration.
- If you have any health problem, contact the nearest camp.
- Do not touch rare herbs and plants, but help in their conservation.
