Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court today turned down the application for protection from arrest filed by film director Ram Gopal Varma, following legal action against him over alleged controversy-rich social media posts targeting opposition leaders and their families.
According to reports, public funds of Rs 1.5 crore were paid to Varma when the YSRCP was in power for allegedly defaming with his tweets and factitiously publishing such content through his Twitter account.
The Prakasam district police had already issued notice to Varma, looking for him for questioning. In this light, the judgment now lets them legally go ahead.
