The head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mohsin Naqvi, spoke to the media on Monday and stated that there is still no reply from the ICC regarding the BCCI’s decision not to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy earlier this month. BCCI had previously told the ICC that it will not send its national team to Pakistan and that its matches will be played in a different country. PCB has turned down the hybrid model and has inquired from the ICC regarding the reasons why India does not want to come to Pakistan.
India has not visited Pakistan since the Mumbai terrorist attacks that took place in 2008. The ICC event will take place from the months of February to March.
“If there are any issues from India about sending their team to Pakistan, they should discuss it with us and we will address it. There is no reason why India will not visit Pakistan for the Championships trophy,” Naqvi addressed the press conference.
As per the reports, it was also informed by Naqvi that there is no question of adhering to the Hybrid model, the same that has been proposed by the BCCI.
“Pakistan’s dignity and honour are our concern. Champions Trophy will be conducted only in our country. We will not entertain any Hybrid Model. If India has any concerns, they can come to us and we will address the issues”, said Naqvi addressing the media outside Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
“We still maintain that we will not accept a hybrid model. That is the position we have taken. We are in a hurry for the ICC to come out and tell us the exact dates for the plan of the event,” he further stated.
Naqvi, who is also a minister of interior in the federal government, stated that the PCB’s letter to the ICC also addressed the decision of the BCCI not to send its team to Pakistan.
“We are in constant communication with the ICC and we are still waiting for them to get back to us so that we can move on,” he added.
When asked if it will become more problematic after Jay Shah’s ICC chairman’s tenure begins on December 1, Naqvi replied: ‘Things don’t work like that, each board is autonomous and has an opinion and in my view even the ICC will have to balance its reputation which represents cricket boards across the globe.” Naqvi avoided the issue of Muzaffarabad which is in POK, being taken out from the Champions ‘Trophy Tour’ and whether Pakistan will accept the hybrid model of the tournament.
BCCI had opposed to conduct ‘Trophy Tour’ in the contended region.
“I am here to provide updates on the renovation and construction process and also we are still awaiting for the ICC to get back to us as they also have to come up with the announcement of the schedule.” While discussing the renovation for the Champions Trophy, he noted that the work is proceeding as planned.
‘We have far exceeded our preliminary estimates and are in the process of completing the construction and finishing work at all three venues situated in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.’
