Indian women's team announced for Australia ODI, Shafali out, Harleen returns

New Delhi, 19 November (HS). The Indian Women's Selection Committee on Tuesday announced the 16-member Indian women's cricket team for the Australia tour, which will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur. Opener Shafali Verma has been dropped, while Harleen Deol is making a comeback to the national team after almost a year. The Indian team will play a three-match ODI series on the Australia tour.

Shafali has scored only 108 runs in six matches this year, with the highest being 33 runs. Four other players – Uma Chhetri, Dayalan Hemlata, Shreyanka Patil and Sayali Satghare – have also been left out of the squad that played in India's 2-1 home series win against New Zealand in Ahmedabad last month.

Deol last played for India in December 2023. He was not included in the squad for the home series against South Africa and New Zealand this season.

The first two ODIs will be held at Allan Border Field, Brisbane on 5 December and 8 December respectively, with the last match of the series being played at the WACA Ground, Perth on 11 December.

This series is part of the ICC Women's Championship.
