Khedru Mian had handed over a pot full of gold to Indira Gandhi, but did not get any reward…

Bagaha: If there is a discussion about honesty and there is no mention of Khedru Mian, a resident of Godia Patti in West Champaran district of Bihar, it would be meaningless. In the year 1980, 50-year-old Khedru Mian used to run a grocery shop near Station Chowk in Bagaha. There was a ruined building behind the same shop. When he reached that dilapidated house to defecate, he saw a shining object. After which he scratched it and saw a pot of gold.

When the pot of gold was found: Khedru Mian, born in 1931, took that pot out of the ground and brought it to his shop and showed it to people. When the pot was opened, people's eyes were astonished because it was filled with diamonds, jewels and gold biscuits. This news spread like wildfire. The administration got wind of this. The administration started pressurizing Khedru Mian to hand over the pot. But Khedru Mian did not trust the administration.

Khedru Mian passed away but did not get the reward 'Gold-filled pot handed over to Indira Gandhi': Local former ward councilor Dayashankar Singh says that Khedru Bhai had decided that this gold-filled pot was a government treasure and he would hand it over to the Prime Minister only. After which he was taken to Delhi under the security of the administration and he himself handed over the pot to the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was greatly impressed by his honesty. He immediately directed the DM to gift government land to Khedru as a result of his honesty.

Khedru Mian passed away but did not get the reward: Khedru Mian died on 5 September 2021, but the fruits of his honesty have not been rewarded till date. His grandson Mohd. Firoz told that Indira Gandhi had ordered to give 13 bighas of land to my maternal grandfather. But the land provided was adjacent to the forest. Therefore till date we have not been able to take possession of that land. My maternal grandfather kept running around in the DM office and the Forest Department office, but could not get the reward for his honesty.
