UP By Election: Election Commission took major action for non-compliance of guidelines, suspended five policemen in UP

Lucknow. Election Commission has taken big action amid UP by-elections. According to information received from sources, the Election Commission ordered to suspend the policemen who violated the guidelines for checking voters and stopping them from voting. According to the information received, three policemen have been suspended in Moradabad and two in Kanpur and Muzaffarnagar.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has directed Uttar Pradesh election officials to ensure a fair and smooth voting process. In fact, Samajwadi Party had complained on its official social media account about some communities being prevented from voting during the UP by-elections. Taking cognizance of these complaints, the Election Commission has taken this action.

A video has been shared on Instagram by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, in which a police personnel is seen tearing the voter's slip. Kanpur SI Arun Singh and Rakesh Nadar have been suspended. The video of him returning the voter went viral. The Commission has taken cognizance of the matter of not allowing voting.

At the same time, Senior Superintendent of Police Muzaffarnagar Abhishek Singh has suspended the sub-inspectors with immediate effect for not following the guidelines issued by the Election Commission during the by-election on Meerapur assembly seat. Action has been taken against Sub Inspector Neeraj Kumar Police Station Shahpur, Muzaffarnagar and Sub Inspector Ompal Singh Police Station Bhopa, Muzaffarnagar.

Akhilesh Yadav posted that the fear of voters continues to be intimidated by Uttar Pradesh Police so that they cannot cast their vote in favor of anyone in Chamanganj area of ​​Kanpur. There is an appeal to the Honorable Supreme Court and the Election Commission to take immediate cognizance and take punitive action on the basis of video evidence. Also ensure a fair electoral process. Whatever police officers are checking voter cards and Aadhaar IDs, they should be immediately suspended on the basis of the video. Police has no right to check Aadhaar ID card or identity card.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer of UP had also issued instructions

Earlier, UP Additional Chief Electoral Officer Chandrashekhar had issued necessary instructions to all Police Commissioners and Superintendents and District Election Officers (DMs) related to the by-elections. In the letter issued by the Commission to the officials, it was said that the Samajwadi Party has requested that the voters not be identified by the police force.

In this regard, it is to be informed that on the day of voting, the identification of voters is done only by the presiding officer and his team. The police force does not identify voters. The main objective of the police force is to maintain peace and order on the day of voting. The Commission had given instructions to strictly follow these instructions, so that no chaos occurs at the booth. Similarly, provisions have been given in the Handbook for Returning Officers-2023 regarding identification of women and Pardanashi voters, they should also be ensured to be followed.
