Austin Butler and Edward Berger to star in time travel thriller The Barrier
Edward Berger, known for helming the critically acclaimed film All Quiet on the Western Front and Academy Award nominee Austin Butler are set to join hands for the upcoming film The Barrier. Expected to be a time travel thriller, the film, based on a short story by MacMillan Hedges, will be directed by Berger with a script written by Hedges.
According to a report by DeadlineThe Barrier is described to be a film which will be like a mix of Interstellar and Top Gun. The film’s plot details, however, are currently under wraps. The film is expected to bring about a competitive bidding war among major studios and streamers. Apart from starring in the lead role, Berger will serve as the producer for The Barrier. Butler is also set to executive produce.
Following the critical and commercial success of All Quiet on the Western Frontwhich took home four Academy Awards, including Best International Feature Film, Berger is embarking on this next major project. At present, Berger is vying for awards attention with Conclavea papal thriller featuring Ralph Fiennes, while also developing other upcoming projects, including The Ballad of a Small Playerwhich will star Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton.
Meanwhile Austin Butler is currently filming for Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing. He recently starred in Dune: Part Two opposite Timothée Chalamet and also had prominent roles in Jeff Nichols’s The Bikeriders opposite Tom Hardy and Apple TV+’s event series Masters of the Air. Up next, he is set to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone in Ari Aster’s Eddington.
