Is BTS’ V receiving special priviledges during his military training? Army responds
New Delhi: South Korean band member, Kim Tae-hyung, popularly known as V from BTS, has been engulfed in a controversy over allegations of receiving special treatment during his mandatory military training. It all started after Min Hee Jin mentioned in an interview how V contacted her on her birthday.
The controversy intensified after the Ministry of National Defence received public complaints questioning if V is receiving special treatment during his military training due to his K-pop star status. Later, the Defence Ministry reacted to the allegations of favouritism. Let’s delve into more details!
What did the Defence Ministry say?
Defending the allegations, the Defence Ministry responded by saying that V wasn’t granted any special privileges as he had used his phone during designated hours approved by the military training centre. As per their policy, the Army training center permits trainees to use their phones for an hour on weekends and public holidays. According to reports, V used his phone during the authorised afternoon time and not in the early morning hours.
How did the allegations start?
The controversy sparked after former Ador CEO Min-Hee-Jin said during an interview that V is a “cheerful and lively friend”, adding that V sent her a message at dawn to wish her. Min’s birthday falls on December 16, which was just five days after BTS’ V was enlisted in the army, stirring the allegations. The allegations even led to a formal inquiry via a national petition system.
Meanwhile, BTS’ V is currently serving his mandatory military service in the Army’s 2nd Corps Military Police Command Special Mission Unit. He is expected to be discharged from his duty by June 2025.
