Priyanka Gandhi came to meet Mallikarjun Kharge, gave credit for her victory to this leader

New Delhi: After her landslide victory in the parliamentary by-elections, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in the national capital on Saturday. During this, both the leaders celebrated the victory by feeding each other sweets.

Kharge wrote on social media that “Wayanad will continue to contribute to the leadership of the country. I am confident that Mrs. @PriyankaGandhi will become a strong voice for the people of Wayanad and the country in Parliament. His able leadership, compassion, decency and determination and his strong commitment to the principles of the Constitution will further enrich the public sector. “Thank you to the people for choosing Congress Party and UDF.”

The Congress leader expressed his gratitude to the leaders, workers, volunteers and his colleagues who worked hard in his election campaign. She also expressed her gratitude to her mother and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, husband Robert Vadra, children Rehaan and Miraya and her brother and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for guiding her and supporting her.

Priyanka said, “I am grateful to them for giving me the honor of representing me (Wayanad), for the immense love and support I received during my campaign and then for voting for me. It's a testament to the hard work my brother put in there and his love for me and his trust in me. So I think it is a great honor and I will respect it completely.” Meanwhile, BJP's Wayanad Lok Sabha candidate Navya Haridas on Saturday expressed disappointment over the current trends as she is trailing behind Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Haridas said that BJP had campaigned development-oriented, yet the party could not reach the level he had expected. He said, “When this counting started, we had expectations because we had contacted people only by talking about the development of Wayanad. What can we do here… During this election, a development-oriented election campaign was being run. We hoped that people would speak their mind for development. But unfortunately, turnout in the election was very low. BJP could not reach the level we expected.” The Wayanad seat fell vacant as Rahul Gandhi resigned from there after deciding to retain UP's Rae Bareli seat as he had won both the seats during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
