Know the history of NCC

The history of NCC here is very old, when the University Corps was established in 1917, its first batch came under the Calcutta University on 3 November. With the passage of the Indian Territorial Act in 1920, UC was replaced by the University Training Corps (UTC). It is said that in history, in the year 1942, the name of UTC was changed to University Officer Training Corps. It is said that, during the British Raj, the authorities had decided to give military training to Indian students, due to which NCC was started for the students.

When did NCC come into existence in India?

Amidst the continuous amendments regarding this, the year of commencement of NCC is considered to be 16th July 1948. While the British Raj had made a plan to impart military knowledge to the Indian students, the military forces of the University of Officers Training Corps could not show anything special, hence emphasis was laid on improving the training. For good efforts in this, a committee was formed whose chairman was Pandit HN Kunzru. It was from this committee that the advice was given to establish a cadet organization at the school and college level. The National Cadet Corps Act was established on 15 July 1948 itself.
