Hardik Pandya delivered a sensational performance in Baroda’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy opener against Gujarat at the Holkar Stadium in Indore.
The MI skipper smashed an unbeaten 74 off just 35 balls, featuring six fours and five sixes, at a blistering strike rate of 211.43. His powerful knock played a crucial role in Baroda’s five-wicket victory.
Baroda successfully chased down Gujarat’s target of 185 runs, finishing at 188/5 in 19.3 overs. Hardik was the top scorer for his team. Earlier in the match, he also contributed with the ball, taking one wicket in the first innings.
Hardik Pandya Achieves Historic T20 Double
The match marked a significant milestone for Hardik, as he crossed the 5,000-run mark in T20 cricket, entering the game needing just seven runs to achieve the feat. With 5,067 runs now to his name, the 31-year-old became the first Indian player to accomplish the double of 5,000 runs and 100-plus wickets in the format. He currently has 180 T20 wickets.
Hardik’s achievement places him ahead of other notable Indian all-rounders in T20 cricket. Ravindra Jadeja has 3,684 runs and 225 wickets, followed by Axar Patel (2,960 runs and 227 wickets), Krunal Pandya (2,712 runs and 138 wickets), and Irfan Pathan (2,020 runs and 173 wickets).
Baroda Overcomes Gujarat to Secure Five-Wicket Victory
Talking about the match, Gujarat batted first and posted 184/5 in their 20 overs, with Aaryaman Desai scoring 78 and Axar Patel remaining unbeaten on 43. During the chase, Shivalik Sharma laid the foundation with a solid 64, while Hardik’s unbeaten 74 sealed the win for Baroda as they chased down the target with five wickets in hand.
