Lucknow’s Ekana stadium fined Rs 5 lakh for waste mismanagement at Diljit Dosanjh concert
Lucknow: A fine of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed on the Ekana Stadium management in Lucknow for failing to manage waste during the Daljit Dosanjh concert on Friday. The fine was levied by the Municipal Corporation following a report by the Additional Municipal Commissioner and Environmental Engineer.
Thousands of spectators gathered at Ekana Stadium for the concert, but despite the large crowd, the stadium did not implement solid waste management measures. As a result, huge amounts of garbage, including food packets, plastic cups, and other waste, were left scattered throughout the venue.
Stadium left in disarray
During an inspection, municipal officials found liquid waste along with general garbage left behind. The Additional Municipal Commissioner also had the area videographed. Notably, the stadium’s management failed to carry out proper cleaning after the concert.
The Municipal Corporation issued a statement saying the fine was due to non-compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules-2016. According to these rules, any event with more than 100 attendees within municipal limits requires prior permission from the Corporation. The Ekana Stadium administration, which sold thousands of tickets, did not ensure proper waste management or food disposal arrangements.
Delhi’s JLN stadium also left in shambles
A similar situation was observed at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where Diljit Dosanjh performed for two days in October. The stadium, typically used for sports and training, was left in a deplorable condition after the show, with garbage scattered across the field and running tracks, along with discarded alcohol bottles.
