Congress demands discussion on Adani allegations, Manipur violence in winter session of Parliament

New Delhi: The Congress party on Saturday called on the BJP-led central government to address the allegations against the Adani Group and the violence in Manipur during the upcoming winter session of Parliament. The demand was made at an all-party meeting convened by the parliamentary affairs minister, Kiren Rijiju, and chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh, ahead of the session’s start on November 25.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that his party sought discussions on several key issues, including bribery claims against the Adani Group, the ongoing crisis in Manipur, pollution, and recent train accidents. The meeting saw the participation of leaders from various political parties, including Congress MPs Jairam Ramesh, K Suresh, and JD(U)’s Upendra Kushwaha. Representatives from parties like YSRCP, BJD, SP, TDP, and MDMK were also present.

Congress to raise Adani row, Manipur unrest

The winter session begins with the backdrop of the BJP-led alliance’s victory in Maharashtra and the opposition’s success in Jharkhand. Congress is expected to raise concerns about matters such as the situation in the Northeast, the border standoff at the Line of Actual Control, and the allegations against businessman Gautam Adani.

The government has listed 16 bills for consideration, including the Waqf Amendment Bill, which is currently under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee. Additionally, the contentious ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal may be brought forward during the session.

Congress opposes ‘One Nation, One Election’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed support for the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept, highlighting its potential to optimise resources and enhance democracy. However, Congress has voiced its opposition to the idea. The winter session will continue until December 20, with no sittings on November 26 in observance of Constitution Day.
