Punjab Kings have retained only two uncapped players—Shashank Singh for ₹5.5 crore and Prabhsimran Singh for ₹4.4 crore—demonstrating trust in emerging talents who have previously impressed. This strategic move also gives PBKS the advantage of entering the auction with the highest number of RTM cards (4) among all teams.

New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh was temporarily the most expensive Indian player bought at the IPL auction ever, for now, as Punjab Kings executed their ‘Right to Match’ card for the India left-arm pacer and bought him home for Rs 18 crore on Day 1 of IPL 2025 Mega Auction on Sunday. They added Shreyas Iyer to the team for Rs 26.75 crore – making him the second-most expensive player ever in IPL history. After a while, PBKS got Nehal Wadhera for Rs 4.20 crore

They added leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal to the side for Rs 18 crore. PBKS then added Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis for Rs 11 crore. They also added Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for Rs 4.20 crore. PBKS got back Harpreet Brar for 1.50 crore.

Among the teams expected to grab the spotlight are the Punjab Kings, who have opted for a complete squad overhaul. Releasing all their star players and retaining only two uncapped talents, they enter the auction with a whopping ₹110.5 crore—the largest purse among the 10 franchises.

Punjab Kings have retained only two uncapped players—Shashank Singh for ₹5.5 crore and Prabhsimran Singh for ₹4.4 crore—showing confidence in these lesser-known talents who have delivered for them in the past. With this strategy, PBKS also head into the auction with the highest number of RTM cards (4) among all franchises, giving them a unique edge.

Punjab Kings have made a bold move by appointing Ricky Ponting as their head coach ahead of IPL 2025, following his departure from Delhi Capitals. Adding to the drama, Delhi Capitals have released Rishabh Pant, setting the stage for what could be the most expensive signing in IPL history. With the largest auction purse of ₹110.5 crore, PBKS may aggressively pursue Pant, leveraging his strong rapport with Ponting. Additionally, rumors suggest that Ponting is keen on securing Steve Smith as captain, hinting at an ambitious strategy to build a star-studded core for the franchise.
