Kerala Blasters end losing streak, beat Chennaiyin FC- Talking points

Kochi: Kerala Blasters FC snapped their three-game losing streak in style, dismantling Chennaiyin FC 3-0 in a commanding second-half display at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Goals from Jesus Jimenez, Noah Sadaoui, and Rahul KP lifted the Blasters to their third win of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, bringing a much-needed resurgence to both the team and their loyal supporters.

In a closely fought first half, Kerala’s attacking lineup struggled to break down Chennaiyin’s defensive wall.

Adrian Luna orchestrated early opportunities, including a clever build-up involving Korou Singh, but it wasn’t until the 56th minute that Jesus Jimenez capitalized on Luna’s brilliance to slot home the opener.

From there, it was all Kerala. Sadaoui doubled the lead with a composed finish in the 70th minute, and Rahul KP sealed the result with a late strike during stoppage time, sending the stadium into raptures.

Despite the iconic venue often being a full house, the Blasters’ three consecutive losses saw a dip in attendance with just 18000 present today, with fans hesitant to rally behind their struggling team.

However, this emphatic victory, powered by a clean sheet and standout performances, is bound to reignite the faith of the famed Manjappada faithful and bring the crowds back in full force.

#5 Kerala Blasters Record a Clean Sheet After 19 Games

The Blasters finally broke their defensive drought, keeping a clean sheet for the first time in 19 matches.

The improved defensive performance and return of Sachin Suresh made sure that Chennaiyin FC couldn’t find the back of the net.

It was a long-overdue display of defensive discipline that gave the home crowd plenty to cheer for, but still plenty to fix as such as positioning of centre backs.

Coach Mikael Stahre acknowledged the importance of this feat, saying, “Finally, finally a clean sheet. I would sleep with a smile on my face tonight.”

The backline held firm, giving fans hope for more solid performances in the games ahead.

#4 Kerala Blasters Beat Owen Coyle in Kochi for the First Time

The win was particularly significant as it marked the first time the Blasters defeated Owen Coyle’s team at home.

Known for his tactical expertise, Coyle has often been a thorn in Kerala’s side.

However, this time, coach Mikael Stahre’s tactics outsmarted the experienced Coyle, adding a new chapter to this fierce rivalry.

“This was a super important game, and we handled it really well,” Stahre commented, praising the team’s focus and execution.

#3 Rahul KP Finds His Scoring Boots Again

After a prolonged goal drought, Rahul KP got back on the scoresheet with a brilliant finish in injury time.

The winger, known for his pace and work rate, had been under pressure to deliver.

His late goal not only wrapped up the win but also signaled a much-needed boost in confidence for the Kerala-born attacker.

#2 Chennaiyin FC’s Defensive Collapse in the Second Half

After holding their own in the first half, Chennaiyin’s defense fell apart in the latter stages of the game.

Miscommunication and lack of organization allowed Adrian Luna and Noah Sadaoui to carve through their backline with ease.

The visitors will need to regroup quickly, especially with the likes of Mohun Bagan Super Giant looming in their next fixture.

#1 Chennaiyin FC’s Struggles in Attack Continue

Despite flashes of brilliance from players like Farukh Choudhary and Connor Shields, Chennaiyin failed to capitalize on their chances.

Their inability to convert opportunities, combined with Kerala’s solid defense, left them goalless for the third time this season.

Questions will now arise over their lack of cutting edge in the final third, a concern they must address urgently.

Coach Michael Stahre Reflects on the Victory

After the game, Coach Michael Star was visibly relieved, calling it a much-needed win.

“We’ve been losing three in a row, but we haven’t played that bad. Life influences the mind when you lose games. But I’m glad the guys stayed focused. This victory brings energy, and it was well-deserved,” he said.

Star also had words of praise for young talents like Korou Singh, who was instrumental in the opening goal. “Korou has extraordinary qualities with his speed and one-on-one ability. He wasn’t ready for the full 90 minutes today, but he worked hard and made a big impact,” he remarked.

What’s next for both teams?

Chennaiyin FC will play their next match against the Mohun Bagan Super Giant on November 30, whereas Kerala Blasters FC play FC Goa on November 28.
