Hyderabad: Indian Railways has taken a big step keeping in mind the facilities for general category passengers. To make travel comfortable and provide better services, Railways plans to add more than 1,000 new GS (General Sitting) coaches in about 370 regular trains by November 2024. It is expected that from December, passengers can get relief from crowd and seats will also be easily available in general class coaches. Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma recently said. That about one lakh additional passengers will be able to travel every day in more than 1,000 new GS coaches.
He said that the objective of this step of the Railways is to provide convenience to the passengers. Northeast Frontier Railway is also playing an important role in this initiative. He informed that NFR has already added 276 GS coaches in 36 trains, which are providing more convenience and availability of seats to the passengers. The CPRO also said that the Northeast Frontier Railway plans to add 16 more GS coaches in three additional trains by the end of December 2024. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said, “These efforts are aimed at improving passenger services and making trains accessible to all sections of the society.” Reflecting NFR's commitment towards making travel more comfortable. Recognizing the growing interest of common people in rail travel, Indian Railways is accelerating its efforts by adding GS coaches in its trains. Between July and October alone, 600 GS coaches were added to around 370 trains, taking the total number to 1,000 by November 2024.” Preparation to add over 6,000 GS coaches in two years
Additionally, Indian Railways is planning to add more than 6,000 GS coaches and more than 10,000 non-AC coaches, including additional sleeper-class coaches, in the next two years. With the addition of new coaches, about 8 lakh additional passengers will be able to travel in these every day. This will reduce the crowd of passengers in general class coaches. He said that the newly manufactured coaches are of advanced LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) design, which provides greater comfort, speed and safety. There will be improvement in passenger amenities and safety. He further said that LHB coaches are not only lighter and stronger, but also have less accident risk. There is minimal loss in the situation also. This will improve the safety of passengers.
He said that NFR remains firm in its commitment to give priority to the needs of general class passengers in its zone, thereby improving the travel experience. Central Railway plans to add 90 general class coaches in 42 trains. In this context, Central Railways has also planned to add 90 general second class coaches in 42 trains. The move will benefit more than 9,000 additional passengers daily. Railways is making this big change in view of the rush of passenger services. This move by Central Railway is part of Indian Railways' plan to add 1,000 general class coaches in 370 regular trains by the end of this month.
