Congress has made major changes in its organization in the assembly elections to be held next year in the national capital. In place of Deepak Babariya, Qazi Muhammad Nizamuddin has been appointed in-charge of Delhi, while Imran Masood has been appointed in the screening committee. The party now wants to return to power and is going to enter the field with a complete strategy. Imran Masood is a flamboyant leader and Lok Sabha MP from Saharanpur, UP. Sources say that Congress's hopes of victory in Delhi this time are also on the seats of some minority dominated areas, hence the party has tried to send a message by making major changes in the state team.

Qazi Mohammad won the election from BSP for the first time

Uttarakhand Congress leader Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin is the MLA from Mangalore seat and won the by-election held in July this year by 449 votes. He has also been a Congress MLA from Mangalore seat in 2007 and 2017, but in the 2022 elections, Qazi lost the election by 598 votes. He was defeated by BSP candidate Sarwat Karim Ansari. Ansari died in October 2023, after which Qazi won the by-election held in July 2024. Qazi had lost the assembly elections in 2012 also, but had won the elections from the same seat in 2002 on BSP ticket.

Qazi Mohammad is close to Devendra Yadav

Qazi Mohammad has worked on many important positions in the organization. He has been the media coordinator in Kashmir and in-charge and co-in-charge of Congress in many states. He has also been co-in-charge of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. Qazi is considered close to Delhi Congress working president Devendra Yadav, both the leaders have worked together in Rajasthan and Devendra Yadav himself has been in-charge of Uttarakhand in the 2022 elections.

Congress has been away from power in Delhi for 11 years.

Congress won the last elections in Delhi in 2008, in which Congress leader Sheila Dikshit got the post of Chief Minister. In 2013, BJP won the maximum number of seats, but Congress supported Aam Aadmi Party and made Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister. After that, Aam Aadmi Party won big in the elections of 2015 and 2020 and formed the government with full majority.

Now assembly elections are coming closer. AAP is once again working for victory. Opposition BJP and Congress have also agreed. The party has appointed Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin in-charge of Delhi AICC. Whereas Deepak Babaria has been made the General Secretary in-charge of Delhi. Now Qazi will get the responsibility of preparations for Delhi elections. They will take important decisions of the organization.

Who is in the screening committee

Congress has also announced a screening committee for the upcoming elections, in which Meenakshi Natarajan will be the chairperson and Imran Masood and Pradeep Narwal as members.
