New Delhi: Home-grown seam bowlers were the most sought after breed on the second and concluding day of the Indian Premier League mega auction in Jeddah in Monday, where franchises has lesser purse after splurging on the opening day. Rishabh Pant became the costliest player ever in the tournament’s history, followed by Shreyas Iyer as bidding for two players went above Rs 25 crore for the first time.
Buvneshwar Kumar, who has been out of the Indian team for two years, received the highest pay package of Rs 10.75 crore from Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Deepak Chahar (Rs 9.25 crore for Mumbai Indians), Mukesh Kumar (Rs 8 crore by Delhi Capitals via the right to match card) and Akash Deep (Rs 8 crore for Lucknow Super Giants) also received plenty of attention.
As 10 teams need at least three Indian pacers in their squads and the pool not being large enough for equal distribution, a rush to bag the home-grown quicks emerged on Monday after LSG paid a record Rs 27 crore for Pant and Punjab Kings shelled out Rs 26.75 lakh for Shreyas Iyer on Sunday.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes youngest player in IPL
Rajasthan Royals brought back Jofra Archer for Rs 12.5 crore while strengthening the spin bowling unit with Sri Lankan duo of Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 5.25 crore) and Maheesh Theekshana (Rs 4.4 crore).
But they grabbed headlines for making 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi the youngest player in the tournament’s history with Rs 1.10 crore.
Hailing from Samastipur in Bihar, the prodigy is made his Ranji Trophy debut aged 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai to become the youngest cricket in the competition’s history.
Suryavanshi scored 104 runs off 62 deliveries in India’s Youth Test series against Australia in Chennai, completing the second quickest ton at this level.
It was the fastest hundred by an Indian cricketer at the youth level, and also the youngest centurion in 170-years of competitive cricket at 13 years and 188 days.
Apart from Chahar, five-time champions Mumbai Indians secured 18-year-old Afghan spinner Allah Ghazanfar for Rs 4.80 crore.
“Very happy at this position because we have got our playing XII,” MI owner Akash Ambani said.

Steal deals
Several top names, who were unfancied at the beginning of the day, became steal deals, starting with Faf du Plessis, who was snapped up by Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 2 crore.
Gujarat Titans made a smart buy in India all-rounder Washington Sundar for Rs 3.20 crore as Chennai Super Kings brought back Englishman Sam Curran for Rs 2.40 crore.
Experienced all-rounder Krunal Pandya was picked up for Rs 5.75 crore deal by RCB while seasoned Nitish Rana received a Rs 4.20 crore winning bid from Rajasthan Royals.
In total, a whopping Rs 639.15 crore was spent by the 10 teams for 182 players (including 62 overseas) on two days, making it the most expensive single IPL auction ever.
