Mumbai: After the massive victory of the BJP-led Mahayuti in the assembly elections in Maharashtra, the stormy phase of fund juggernauts continues in the Indian stock markets. Due to all-round rise in shares, Sensex again crossed the level of 80000 and Nifty 24000. With changes in MSCI indices today, selective buying in other stocks including banking-finance stocks led by huge inflows of foreign funds into HDFC Bank again enthused investors in the market. Sentiment among funds, players witnessed an improvement today and there was fresh selective buying in small, mid-cap stocks as well. At one time the Sensex jumped 1,355.97 points to reach 80,473.08 and finally closed at 80,109.85, up 992.74 points. Whereas Nifty 50 spot jumped 444.30 points at one time to close at 24351.55 and finally closed at 24221.90 with an increase of 314.65 points.
Investors’ wealth i.e. the total market capitalization of BSE listed companies increased by Rs 5.87 lakh crore in a single day to Rs 439.58 lakh crore. In this way, in two days between Friday last week and Monday today, the wealth of investors has increased by Rs 14.20 lakh crore.
Rise in capital goods stocks
Funds again gained momentum in capital goods stocks today. ABB rose by Rs 366.10 to Rs 7271.15, Mazagon Dock rose by Rs 184.75 to Rs 4176.25, Hindustan Aeronautics rose by Rs 179.80 to Rs 4290.45, Larsen & Toubro rose by Rs 148.70 to Rs 3753.25, RVNL rose by Rs 3753.25. AIA Engineering rose by Rs 17.35 to Rs 437.75, AIA Engineering rose by Rs 87.15 to Rs 3503.95, Praj Industries rose by Rs 17.90 to Rs 799.20. BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 69622.05, up 2204.77 points.
Funds rise in banking shares
Funds again made selective large purchases in banking-finance stocks today. Bank of Baroda increased by Rs 11.10 to Rs 247.20, Canara Bank increased by Rs 4.05 to Rs 101, State Bank of India increased by Rs 28.70 to Rs 844.75, HDFC Bank’s weight increased in MSCI Global Standard Index after the change, the stock crossed Rs 1800 due to new foreign fund inflows. and finally reached Rs 38.65. Rs 1784.60, ICICI Bank increased by Rs 23.30 to Rs 1301.50, Federal Bank increased by Rs 3.75 to Rs 213, Kotak Mahindra Bank increased by Rs 28.85 to Rs 1791.55. BSE Bankex index closed at 59504.71, up 1198.66 points.
Rise in oil and gas stocks
Today again there was a rise in oil and gas stocks; BSE oil and gas index increased by 838.66 points and closed at 26561.19. ONGC rose by Rs 12.50 to Rs 257.95, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation rose by Rs 16.15 to Rs 376.70, BPCL rose by Rs 10.95 to Rs 296.75, Indraprastha Gas rose by Rs 11.85 to Rs 3.324, IOC rose by Rs 9.95 to Rs 333.85, rose by Rs 3.85. That of Oil India rose by Rs 136.45, Oil India rose by Rs 14.25 to Rs 521.45, Reliance Industries rose by Rs 21.85 to Rs 1287.80.
Attraction in IT stocks
IT-software services, technology stocks also remained the favorite buys of the fund today. Genesis International rose by Rs 64.35 to Rs 822.50, KPIT Technology rose Rs 57.70 to Rs 1365.50, Mphasis rose Rs 114.25 to Rs 2996.60, Oracle Finserv rose Rs 446.30 to Rs 11,970.55, Tata Elxsi rose Rs 244.80 to Rs 6830, Datamatics rose by Rs 18.40 to Rs 542, Coforge rose by Rs 271.50 to Rs 8599.40, LTTS rose by Rs 150.30 to Rs 5455.20.
Rise in healthcare stocks
Funds also made selective aggressive purchases in shares of healthcare-pharmaceutical companies today. Polymed up by Rs 420.85 to Rs 3002.70, Vimta Labs up by Rs 105.35 to Rs 866.15, Hester Bio up by Rs 263.80 to Rs 2642.95, APL Ltd up by Rs 55.15 to Rs 1096.95, Wockhardt up by Rs 61.50 to Rs 1292.45, Shelby rose by Rs 10.75 to Rs 226.30, Thyrocare rose by Rs 44.40 to Rs 1001.85, Laurus Lab rose by Rs 19.70 to Rs 532.15, MannKind rose by Rs 76.45 to Rs 2628.
Attraction in small cap, mid cap
Market sentiment remained positive today as fund of funds, high net worth investors reduced valuations in many stocks including small, mid cap stocks. Of the total 4214 stocks traded on BSE, the number of gainers was 2699 and the number of decliners was 1350.
DII sales Rs 6908 crore
Aggressive buying by FIIs, including HDFC Bank, on Monday resulted in net buying of shares worth Rs 9947.55 crore in cash. While DII-Domestic Institutional Investors made a net sale of Rs 6907.97 crore in cash today.
