Perth: India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to return home after the team’s victory in the Perth Test.
Citing personal reasons, Gambhir will leave the team during the ongoing five-match series. According to a report, he plans to rejoin the squad before the second Test in Adelaide, which begins on December 6.
After their convincing win in Perth, the team is scheduled to travel to Canberra this Wednesday to participate in a two-day pink-ball tour match. The match against the Prime Minister’s XI is set to start on Saturday, November 30. Currently, it remains uncertain who will coach the team for this match. The Indian team aims to acclimatize to the pink ball and conditions under lights.
The report included a statement from a source: “Gambhir has informed us of his need to travel back home and intends to rejoin the team before the second Test commences. His personal reasons have been acknowledged, and the BCCI has granted his request.”
In other news, the Indian team, captained by Jasprit Bumrah, secured a 295-run victory over Australia, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Bumrah’s outstanding performance, which included eight wickets, earned him the Player of the Match award.
Bumrah expressed his satisfaction at the post-match presentation, saying, “I’m very pleased with our start. We faced some pressure in the first innings, but I’m proud of our response. Having played here in 2018, I recalled that the pitch starts off a bit soft and speeds up as the game progresses. I relied on that experience. This pitch was slightly less challenging than the previous one. We were thoroughly prepared, so I encouraged everyone to trust their process and abilities.”
