Voting on 6 vacant Rajya Sabha seats held on December 20 News In Hindi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday issued notification for 6 vacant Rajya Sabha seats. Elections for the Upper House will be held on December 20 and the results will also be declared on the same day. Six members will be elected to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Haryana.

Three seats were vacant in Andhra Pradesh, one seat each in Odisha, West Bengal and Haryana.

Andhra Pradesh: The state will send three MPs. Elections were held for new members after three MPs of Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP, Venkatraman Rao Mopidevi, Beedha Mastan Rao Yadav and Rayaga Krishnaiah, resigned from the Rajya Sabha. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is set to win all three seats. Mopidevi's tenure was till June 21, 2026, while Yadav and Rayaga's tenure was till June 21, 2028.

Odisha: One member from the eastern state will be sent to the Upper House. Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sujit Kumar has resigned from the Rajya Sabha. BJP is likely to win this seat from the state.

West Bengal: Jawahar Sarkar of the ruling Trinamool Congress has resigned as Rajya Sabha member. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's TMC is set to easily retain the seat.

Haryana: Ruling BJP's Krishna Lal Panwar has resigned from the state's Rajya Sabha seat. BJP is ready to retain this seat. Panwar has left the Rajya Sabha to contest the Haryana Assembly elections from Israna constituency. He is currently the Minister of Development and Panchayat, Mines and Geology in the Naib Singh Saini cabinet.
