Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: Gautam Gambhir returns home due to family emergency; will return before the second test
Perth, 26 November (HS). Indian cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir has returned back to Delhi due to a family emergency. He will return to Australia ahead of the second Test to be held in Adelaide from 6 December.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's team will travel to Canberra on Wednesday, where matches will be played against Prime Minister's XI at Manuka Oval on November 30 and December 1.
In Gambhir's absence, assistant coaches Abhishek Nair, Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel will take charge of the team for the pink-ball match in Canberra.
This match will be played before the day-night test to be held in Adelaide from 6 December.
India made a great start to the Border-Gavaskar series by defeating Australia by 295 runs in the first match in Perth. The visiting team, led by key fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, was all out for 150 runs in the first innings, but made a comeback and restricted Australia to just 104 runs. A better batting performance thanks to centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli in the third innings paved the way for a resounding victory for India.
