$15M apartment of incarcerated casino mogul Alvin Chau’s mistress Mandy Lieu remains unsold

According to Dimsum Dailythe property is located in Hong Kong’s upscale Mid-Levels area and spans 2,182 square feet. A promotional video by real estate agents showcases the lavish features of the apartment, including a marble sauna, top-of-the-line Miele appliances in both Western and Chinese kitchens, and an opulent bath area.

Its design is equally extravagant, with mirrored ceilings, a king-sized bed adorned with the initials of Lieu and Chau, and other luxurious details. The apartment also offers stunning views of Victoria Harbour.

The South China Morning Post reports that Lieu purchased the property for HK$91.33 million in 2014, according to online records from Midland Realty and Centaline Property. She reportedly signed over the apartment as collateral in 2021 to help settle the corporate debts of the imprisoned Chau.

The property has been on the market since Dec. 2023 but has yet to find a buyer, despite efforts by Chau’s company Melco Resorts & Entertainment to promote it through exclusive listings.

Lieu, 39, and Chau, 50, were involved in an affair while Chau was married to businesswoman Heidi Chan, 44. After their separation in 2019, Lieu moved to the U.K. with the four children she shares with Chau, reportedly receiving HK$300 million from the mogul as a “break-up fee,” according to The Straits Times.

Chau, the founder and former CEO of Suncity, was arrested in Nov. 2021 as part of a crackdown on illegal gambling operations and money laundering. In Jan. 2023, a Macau court convicted him of fraud, leading a criminal organization, and managing illegal gambling. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison and is currently incarcerated at Coloane Prison in Macau.
