Big action by NADA against Bajrang Punia, suspended for 4 years in dope test case
New Delhi: The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has taken major action against Bajrang Punia on Tuesday, (26 November 2024). On March 10 this year, he was suspended for four years for refusing to give his sample for dope test during the selection trials for the national team. News agency PTI has given this information in its report. Let us tell you that the anti-doping agency had first announced suspension of Punia in this case on April 23.
After this, the world governing body UWW also decided to suspend him. However, Bajrang Punia had appealed against the provisional suspension. It was canceled by NADA's Disciplinary Doping Panel (ADDP) on May 31 until NADA issued a notice of charges.

NADA had sent notice on June 23
After this, NADA sent a notice to the wrestler on June 23. After this notice, Bajrang Punia challenged the allegation in a written submission on 11 July. After this, hearings were held on 20 September and 4 October. In its order after the completion of the hearing, the ADDP said that the Panel considers that the athlete is liable to sanctions under Article 10.3.1 and is liable to ineligibility for a period of 4 years.
According to the Panel, in the present case the athlete was provisionally suspended, therefore the Panel is of the view that the period of ineligibility of the athlete for a period of 4 years will commence from the date of sending the notification, i.e. from 23.04.2024. Since the provisional suspension was canceled during the period from 31.05.2024 to 21.06.2024, it is needless to say that the said period will not be added to the sentence of suspension.
Bajrang Punia's allegation
The suspension means that Bajrang will not be able to return to competitive wrestling. If he wants, he will not be able to even apply for a coaching job abroad. Bajrang Punia has said from the very beginning that due to his participation in the protest against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, he was treated extremely biased and unfairly regarding doping control.
