India signs agreement to include solar energy projects in the Indo-Pacific region, energy access will increase!

New Delhi : The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday 26 November signed a Project Implementation Agreement with the International Solar Alliance to commission a solar project costing USD 2 million in Fiji, Comoros, Madagascar and Seychelles.

This development comes after India committed to invest USD 2 million in new solar projects in these Indo-Pacific countries under the Quad Climate Working Group initiative.

After the signing of the agreement, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal took to social media platform X to highlight India's commitment to renewable energy and equitable energy transition in the island countries of the Indo-Pacific.

This thing came to light in ISA study

According to a study conducted by ISA, countries under consideration for solar projects have energy issues related to the potential for spoilage of agricultural products, unreliable power supplies in health centers and irrigation purposes in remote areas where grid power supply or solar mini Grids are not available yet. Solar projects in these countries focus on the areas of cold storage, solarization of health care facilities and solar water pumping systems. The successful execution of these projects is expected to increase energy access, generate employment and provide reliable and quality power supply in these Indo-Pacific countries.

Solar energy is a viable solution to help these countries meet climate change-related challenges. “The latest round of clean energy investments by India in these countries aims to address the challenges posed by climate change and facilitate their transition to clean energy economies for people, the planet and our shared prosperity,” the MEA release said. “Strengthens the nation’s commitment to the Quad.”
