Ex-GT star SMASHES Rishabh Pant’s T20 record with remarkable 28-ball century
Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter Urvil Patel smashed the fastest T20 century for his team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. In the match against Tripura, Urvil scored a magnificent 28-ball ton which saw Gujarat chase the target of 156 in only 10.2 overs.
This comes exactly a year after he smashed the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in List A cricket. The 26-year-old bettered Rishabh Pant’s record for the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian. Pant had hit a 32-ball century against Himachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2018.
Urvil’s 28-ball century is the second-fastest century in T20 cricket only behind Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who scored a 27-ball century against Cyprus.
Urvil finished the match unbeaten on 113 off just 35 deliveries. This superb knock included 7 boundaries and 12 sixes. However, the former Gujarat Titans star wasn’t able to find any buyers in the recently-concluded IPL auction.
Exactly on the same day last year, Urvil scored an unbeaten 41-ball ton for Gujarat in their Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh. This was the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket.
