Everyone knows about Shravanabelagola in Karnataka. Here stands a huge monolithic statue of Gomateshwara (Baahubali), about 57 feet high. The statue is carved from a single block of stone and is made of granite. There are small temples of all the Tirthankaras around the temple. It is situated on the Vidyagiri hills and there are 700 steps to reach the statue. It is a major pilgrimage site for followers of Jainism and the Mahamastakabhisheka festival is celebrated here every 12 years, attracting devotees from all over the world.
Moodabidri is located in Dakshina Kannada district and is also known as “Jain Kashi”. There are many ancient Jain temples here. The most famous of these is the Savitra Kambada Basadi, also known as the Thousand Pillar Temple. This temple was built in 1430 AD. This temple is famous for its intricately carved pillars and architecture. This temple is located in Hubli, Karnataka, near the Pune Bengaluru Highway. It is known as one of the important religious places of North Karnataka. The main attraction of this temple is the 61 feet high statue of Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankara. This temple was constructed in the year 2005. Other idols stand on circular structures like the 8 planets and are considered auspicious.
Hahumcha is situated in Shimoga district and this place is known for Padmavati Temple. This temple is dedicated to Jain goddess Padmavati. Humcha is an important pilgrimage site for Jains. Especially the followers of Digambara sect, devotees of Goddess Padmavati.
Another important Jain center is Karkala in Karnataka, known for its 42 feet high statue of Lord Bahubali. It is similar to the image of Shravanabelagola. This statue was installed in 1432. Chaturmukh Basadi i.e. the temple with four faced statues of Tirthankaras is also another major attraction here.
