PAN 2.0 Project: PAN card holders are soon going to get a new QR code PAN card. For this, the government has announced the launch of PAN 2.0 project. Under which QR code will now be added to the new PAN card. This facility will be made available to every taxpayers free of cost. Due to which many types of questions are arising in the minds of people. One of which is the question whether with the introduction of PAN card with QR code, the existing PAN card will remain valid or will become inoperative. To answer these questions, the Income Tax Department has issued a FAQ on 26 November 2024 to answer the questions related to this project. Under this, people's questions will be answered.
What is PAN 2.0 project?
PAN 2.0 Project is an e-governance project launched by the government under which the government will redesign the business processes of Taxpayers Registration Service for PAN and TAN services. Besides, work will also be done to enhance the digital experience of taxpayers. The project aims to enable government agencies to use PAN as a common identifier for all digital systems.
The PAN cards issued under the new system will be equipped with QR code and the details entered in the card will also be verified digitally. Due to which fake applications can be controlled. After its arrival, no person will be able to have more than one PAN card. However, even in the year 2017-18, there was QR code in the PAN card. But the upcoming QR codes like PAN 2.0 will be equipped with dynamic feature. In this, the latest data present in the PAN database can also be seen. This PAN card will also include information about photo signature, name, parents' name and date of birth.
With this project being started by the government, taxpayers will be provided quick service with better quality. Also, after the launch of PAN 2.0, complete information based on single source and data will be easily available.
Will old PAN cards become useless?
According to the FAQ issued by the Income Tax Department, if you have a PAN card, it is not necessary that you apply for PAN 2.0. Even after the launch of PAN 2.0, the old or existing PAN card will remain valid. Taxpayers who have old PAN cards will be given the option to apply for a new card with QR code. Apart from this, it has been told through FAQs that even after the introduction of the new system, the existing PAN card held by individuals or businesses will remain valid. There will be no need to change it.
