Shahid Afridi levels serious allegations against BCCI, urges ICC to take action
All is not well between the BCCI and PCB because of the Champions Trophy. The global event is scheduled to be played in Pakistan next year, but as things stand at the moment, the tournament’s model is unclear.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has accused the BCCI of placing international cricket in a precarious position.
The apex body of Indian cricket hasn’t received the NOC from the Indian government, and hence, the officials have informed the ICC that the Men in Blue will not be playing in Pakistan.
India want its matches in a different country. Mohsin Naqvi, the interior minister of Pakistan and also the chairman of the PCB, has refused to accept India’s demand.
The stakeholders will meet on November 29 to decide the way forward and finalize the schedule. Meanwhile, Afridi wants fairness from the ICC and the Board of Directors.
“By intertwining politics with sports, the BCCI has placed international cricket in a precarious position. Fully support the PCB’s stance against the hybrid model – especially since Pakistan (despite security concerns) has toured India five times, including a bilateral white-ball series, post-26/11. It’s time for the ICC and its Board of Directors to uphold fairness and assert their authority,” he wrote on X.
According to Rashid Latif, the BCCI, PCB, and ICC have already agreed on the hybrid model, so the announcement is just a formality.
