IPL 2025 Auction Mistakes – Auctioneer’s Blunder Sparks Controversy
IPL 2025 Auction Mistakes: The auction was a historic event, with a total spend of 639.15 crores on 182 players over two days. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer went for a record-breaking price of INR 27 and INR 26.75 crores to LSG and PBKS, respectively.
Despite the event concluding smoothly, some mistakes made by the Auctioneer Mallika Sagar have created controversy and cost some franchises money and players.
It is said that during the bidding of Jos Buttler and Abhinav Manohar, Mallika has made mistake with mentioning the wrong numbers which resulted in loss for franchises who bought them.
During Jos Buttler’s bid, the situation unfolded when Gujarat Titans had bid for INR 15.50 crore and Sagar while asking Lucknow Super Giants if they wanted to increase the bid to INR 15.75 crore, got confused.
LSG declined, but Sagar unintentionalyy called out INR 15.75 crore as the final bid, leading Gujarat Titans to overpay by INR 25 lakh.
While Abhinav Manohar present for the bid Abhinav Manohar made a careless mistake due to SRH lost a ransom of INR 20 lakh.
Meanwhile, the error was committed for Uttar Pradesh’s 19 year old Swastik Chikara whose bidding raised quite a heated disagreement between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals.
RCB started the bit at the base price of INR 30 lakh and got the player when the gavel came down with no other franchise showing interest. However, this is when DC head coach Hemang Badani said that his team had raised the paddle.
Delhi Capitals’ co-owner Kiran Grandhi was angry at the outcome. “It cost us a chance to add a young player to our squad. This was a significant oversight,’ said Gandhi.
Chikara scored 499 runs and won the MVP and Super Striker of the season award while playing for the Meerut Maverick in the UPT20 league.
He credited Virender Sehwag for his explosive batting. “I have always admired Virender Sehwag batting style,” he said.
