Discoms: Electricity demand in Delhi expected to break records this winter

BSES discoms – BRPL and BYPL – are adopting strategic power planning to meet the increasing peak demand. A company spokesperson said 53 per cent of the maximum winter power demand in the BSES region, more than 3,900 MW, will be met from green energy. Discoms expect demand in the winter months to follow the record-breaking trend of the summer. During summer this year, Delhi recorded an unprecedented peak power demand of 8,656 MW. Forecasts from the State Load Despatch Center (SLDC) Delhi indicate that the city's peak power demand could cross 6,300 MW this winter, which would set a new seasonal high. Last winter, the peak had reached 5,816 MW, the highest level recorded in the national capital. The maximum power generation in BRPL and BYPL sectors in winter was 2,529 MW and 1,210 MW respectively, while this year the figure is estimated to be more than 2,600 MW for BRPL and 1,240 MW for BYPL, a company spokesperson said.

BSES Discoms are focusing on strategic planning, accurate demand forecasting and maintaining strong distribution network for reliable power supply throughout the year. He said that these measures will ensure uninterrupted power availability to more than 50 lakh consumers covering two crore residents of South, West, East and Central Delhi in the coming winter months.Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) The spokesperson said that the discom expects the maximum demand in the distribution area of ​​North and North West Delhi to cross the level of 1,840 MW.
