Opposition adamant on discussing Adani-Sambhal violence, House stalled for second day
House proceedings adjourned for the day due to uproar
New Delhi (Talk). Adani case: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Thursday due to opposition's uproar over the violence in Sambhal and demand for discussion on the Adani case. As soon as the House reconvened at 12 noon on Thursday, members of Congress, Trinamool Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) stood at their respective places and started making noise and ruckus.
They demand discussion on Adani case And Sambhal started raising slogans and creating ruckus regarding violence. Some members came to the middle of the House and started making noise. SP members were shouting slogans and saying, hang the murderers of Sambhal, the government will not run with sticks and bullets. Meanwhile, Presiding Officer Krishna Prasad Tennati got the necessary documents tabled in the House. Expressing disappointment over the continued uproar by the opposition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said amid the noise that in the meeting of all parties, the appropriate time was decided to discuss and pass the bills in the House.
Rules are also being made regarding other issues. Opposition members are breaking the rules. He condemns this behavior of the opposition. Rijiju said that members get a chance to speak about their respective areas in the House. Friends of Congress and other opposition parties are creating ruckus and disrupting the proceedings of the House, this is not appropriate.
Time to submit report to joint committee extended
He said that the government has also accepted the opposition's demand to extend the time for submitting the report to the joint committee formed on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. Despite this, members of Congress and opposition parties are creating ruckus and disrupting the functioning of the House, which is not appropriate. Even after this statement of Rijiju, the uproar by the opposition members continued. Presiding Officer Tennati requested the rioting members to stop making noise and allow the proceedings of the House to proceed smoothly, but the noise did not stop. On this the Presiding Officer adjourned the proceedings of the House till 11 am on Friday.
Earlier, as soon as the proceedings of the House started at 11 am, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 12 noon due to the uproar by the opposition members demanding debate in the Adani case.
When the House assembled at 11 am, Speaker Om Birla administered the oath to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who won the by-election from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, and Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan, elected from Nanded seat in Maharashtra. After the oath of both the members, Birla started the Question Hour, but the opposition members gathered in the middle of the House and started creating ruckus demanding immediate discussion in the Adani case.
The Speaker tried to conduct the Question Hour amid the uproar, but the uproar intensified. The Speaker urged the members to go to their places and said that an attempt is being made to raise a topic which has nothing to do with our country. Even after Birla's request, the uproar in the House did not stop, then the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 12 noon.
Opposition ruckus in Rajya Sabha, proceedings adjourned
The uproar by opposition members continued in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday demanding the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate the alleged irregularities in the Adani Group and the proceedings of the House had to be adjourned for the day. When Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar tried to start the House proceedings for Question Hour after the first adjournment, members of Congress and other opposition parties came forward from their seats and started speaking loudly. On this, Dhankhar gave instructions not to record anything.
Appealing to the members to remain calm, Dhankhar said that this is a house of seniors and it is the duty of the members of this house to fulfill the aspirations of 140 crore people. Members must fulfill this duty. He said that Parliament is a place of positive dialogue. He appealed to the members to cooperate in running the Question Hour and said that it is very necessary.
However, this appeal had no effect on the sloganeering opposition members, so the Chairman announced the adjournment of the House for the day at 12.05 pm.
Even before this, during Zero Hour, opposition members had created a ruckus demanding formation of JPC, due to which the proceedings of the House were adjourned. Due to the continuing uproar in the House, Zero Hour was disrupted even today and Question Hour could not be held.
