Australian players snub Rohit Sharma, give preference to Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah
Australian players were asked to pick an Indian player they would like to have on their team. India captain Rohit Sharma was snubbed, and the players were divided between speedster Jasprit Bumrah and batter Virat Kohli. Pat Cummins gave the best response.
Kohli has a massive fan following in Australia, and his name was used to promote the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
In the series opener, Virat smashed his 81st century in international cricket, 30th in the longest format of the game and seventh in Australia.
Following India’s win by 295 runs in the Perth Test, Australian players spoke to ABC Sports. They were told to pick one Indian player for their Test team. Nathan Lyon took Virat Kohli’s name. Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey agreed with the off-spinner.
“It would be cool to play with Virat,” Marsh said. “I would love to play with Virat Kohli,” Carey said.
Glenn Maxwell mentioned that it is impossible to pass Virat. “It is impossible to get past my RCB teammate Virat Kohli. He gives his best performances against Australia. He will be hard to dismiss this summer,” Maxwell said.
However, Steve Smith and Travis Head went with Jasprit Bumrah.
Cummins refused to pick any Indian player. India and Australia will next play in a Pink Ball Test in Adelaide on December 6.
