Social justice and inclusive development were achieved through Indian Constitution: President Murmu- The Week

The Indian Constitution is a live and progressive document through which we have achieved the goals of social justice and inclusive development, President Droupadi Murmu said during celebrations to mark 75 years of adopting Indian constitution at Parliament on Tuesday.

Kickstarting the year-long celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, Murmu recalled the contribution of the 15 women members of the Constituent Assembly in framing the document. “Law on women reservation has started a new era of women empowerment in our democracy,” added Murmu.

Urging citizens to imbibe constitutional ideals I urge all citizens to imbibe the constitutional ideals into their behaviour, President Murmu urged the public to do their fundamental duties and work towards achieving the national goal of a developed India by 2047. As part of the celebrations, the president also released the Maithili and Sanskrit versions of the Constitution. A commemorative coin and stamp were released on the occasion.

Addressing the event, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said independence will be put into jeopardy a second time if parties placed creed above country. “It is time to restore the sanctity of our democratic temples through constructive dialogue, debate and meaningful discussion to serve our people effectively,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Leader of the Rajya Sabha JP Nadda, Leaders of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge (Rajya Sabha) and Rahul Gandhi (Lok Sabha), Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju were present on the dais.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged members to follow the tradition of constructive and dignified debates set by the Constituent Assembly while deliberating upon the Constitution that was adopted 75 years ago. “These traditions of constructive and dignified debates should be implemented by our respective Houses as well,” he said.
