Shardul Thakur records worst bowling figures in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after going unsold in IPL 2025 mega auction
Shardul Thakur, who recently went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, recorded the worst bowling figures in the history of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the match against Kerala at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, he conceded 69 runs and took 1 wicket from his four overs.
This is now the joint expensive spell in the T20 tournament. Earlier, Ramesh Rahul of Arunachal Pradesh had conceded 69 runs.
Hyderabad’s Pagadala Naidu was the previous record holder after he leaked 67 runs and dismissed one batter against Mumbai in 2010. The match between Mumbai and Kerala was won by the Sanju Samson-led team by 43 runs.
Kerala posted 234/5 in 20 overs, with Rohan Kunnummal amassing 87 runs. Mumbai were restricted to 191/9
Shardul hasn’t been impressive in the IPL over the years. In nine games for CSK in IPL 2024, he took five wickets at an average of 61.80.
He was not considered for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, with the selection committee preferring Nitish Kumar Reddy over him. In 83 matches for India across formats, he has taken 129 wickets and accumulated 729 runs.
