PLI Scheme for telecom and networking products help sale of Rs 65,320 crore
New Delhi: The much-talked about Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for telecom and networking has recorded 42 applicant companies including 28 MSMEs with a cumulative investment of Rs 3,925 crore and exports worth Rs crore 12,384.
The PLI scheme was launched by the PM Narendra Modi-led government in June, 2021. It was launched with a total financial outlay of Rs 12,195 crore and a total of 33 telecom and networking products. The incentives range from 4 to 7 per cent and additional 1 per cent incentive for MSMEs for the first 3 years. The government also gives additional 1 per cent incentive for products ‘Designed in India’.
PLI Scheme Investment and Export Figures
Minister of State for Communications, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, informed the Lok Sabha, that the applicant companies had recorded total sales worth Rs 65,320 crore till September 30, 2024.
With an aim to fund research and development of technologies, products and services for providing telecom services in rural and remote areas, the government had launched Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) Scheme January 1, 2022. The Digital Communications Innovation Square (DCIS) Scheme was started in 2021 to support translation of innovative ideas and knowledge in engineering into pilot scale operation, field deployment or viable technology development.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister Sekhar stated that the Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing was notified on April 1, 2020 to provide incentive to eligible companies on incremental sales (over base year) involved in mobile phone manufacturing and manufacturing of specified electronic components, including Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) units.
The government notified Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS) on 1st April, 2020 while Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme was notified on 1st April, 2020.
