Mahindra Conducts India’s First Live EV Crash Test with the XEV 9e: A Milestone in Electric Vehicle Safety

Mahindra has made history by conducting India’s first live crash test of an electric vehicle, the XEV 9eat its state-of-the-art Electric Origin Passive Safety Lab in Tamil Nadu. This facility, recognized as one of the world’s largest OEM-owned safety labs, demonstrates Mahindra’s commitment to advancing EV safety and technology.

Live Crash Test Highlights

The XEV 9e underwent a rigorous frontal crash test at 64 km/hinvolving a 40 percent offset deformable barrier. The test showcased several critical safety outcomes:

  • Airbag Deployment: The airbags deployed flawlessly, mitigating impact forces and ensuring passenger safety.
  • Passenger Cabin Integrity: The cabin remained intact, highlighting the vehicle’s robust structural design.
  • Battery Safety Tests:
    • Nail Penetration Test: The battery cells resisted punctures without catastrophic failure.
    • Fire Resistance Test: A fully charged battery pack withstood exposure to open flames without exploding, proving high-temperature reliability.
    • Crush Test: A live battery pack survived the weight of a 22-tonne truck while maintaining its charging and discharging capabilities.

Mahindra’s Electric SUVs: XEV 9e and BE 6e

Mahindra also unveiled its two latest battery-electric SUVs, the XEV 9e and BE 6ebuilt on the company’s INGLO platform. These vehicles represent the next step in Mahindra’s electric mobility journey.

Key Specifications

  • Performance: Both SUVs feature a 3-in-1 powertraindelivering up to 210kW and 380Nm torqueenabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in under 7 seconds.
  • Battery and Range: Powered by LFP battery packs (59kWh or 79kWh), they offer ARAI-certified ranges of:
    • 682km for the BE 6e
    • 656km for the XEV 9e
  • Charging Capabilities: Support fast charging from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC charger.

Both models come equipped with:

  • Safety Enhancements: Level 2+ ADAS, Secure 360 system, and a lifetime battery warranty for first owners.
  • Tech and Comfort: Twin or triple screens, a Harman Kardon sound systemand Mahindra’s proprietary MAIA AI platform for intelligent connectivity and driving assistance.

Pricing and Availability

Mahindra has priced the BE 6e and XEV 9e competitively, with introductory prices starting at:

  • ₹18.90 lakh for the BE 6e
  • ₹21.90 lakh for the XEV 9e (ex-showroom)

Bookings open in late January 2025with deliveries beginning in February 2025.
