Bundesliga 2024/25: Jamal Musiala rescues Bayern Munich in late classic drama

New Delhi: Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich played out a 1-1 draw in an intense Klassiker that saw late drama and controversy. The Bundesliga’s top clash lived up to its billing, with both teams showing their quality in front of a packed Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund, unbeaten at home until now, were left frustrated as Bayern salvaged a point with Jamal Musiala’s late equaliser.

Dortmund started cautiously, absorbing Bayern’s early pressure. Gregor Kobel denied Leroy Sané’s fierce strike within the opening minutes, keeping the hosts level. An injury to Waldemar Anton disrupted Dortmund’s defence early, but the home side found their rhythm soon after.

Jamie Bynoe-Gittens broke the deadlock in the 27th minute with a brilliant solo effort, bursting past Konrad Laimer and slotting home past Manuel Neuer. Bayern suffered a further setback when Harry Kane went off injured before the break.

After halftime, Bayern dominated possession but struggled to break down Dortmund’s defence. Musiala and Sané had chances but failed to convert, while Kobel stood firm for the hosts. Dortmund had opportunities to extend their lead, with Marcel Sabitzer forcing a save from Neuer.

The game turned in the 85th minute when a controversial free-kick led to Bayern’s equaliser. A shot deflected off Niklas Süle, leaving him injured, but play continued. Michael Olise’s cross found Musiala, who headed past Kobel to silence the home crowd. Dortmund’s protests were in vain, and Bayern extended their unbeaten streak at Signal Iduna Park to eight games.

The draw keeps Bayern ten points clear of Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings, a significant gap for the title race. Dortmund will rue their missed chances and the contentious circumstances of the equaliser. Bayern, meanwhile, maintain their dominance in Der Klassiker, showing resilience despite setbacks.
