“He is like Jasprit Bumrah”: Matthew Hayden compares Australian fast bowler to Indian speedster

The third Test between India and Australia is likely to end in a draw after several rain breaks and a heroic batting effort from some of the visiting batters. KL Rahul scored 84 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a fine 77. However, it was down to Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep to avoid a follow-on. Akash was unbeaten on 27 runs, while Bumrah is 10 not out, with one more day to go.

Australia were one bowler shot for the entire day as Josh Hazlewood bowled just one bowler due to a calf injury and has been ruled out of the remaining day and the two upcoming Tests.

Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, taking four wickets. Mitchell Starc took 3 scalps, while one each went to Nathan Lyon and Hazlewood. Matthew Hayden compared Starc to Bumrah, who took six wickets in Australia’s turn in the Gabba Test.

“Mitchell Starc is like Jasprit Bumrah in terms of pace and variations. Starc has got severl tricks as a bowler and bowls fast like the Bumrah. The best part about him is that he hasn’t been to IPL regularly, and that has helped him. Pat Cummins has played more IPL seasons than him,” Matthew Hayden said.

Sunil Gavaskar, who was sitting next to him, didn’t like what Hayden said about the IPL. “But IPL is good for the cricketers as you get the chance to play with the best cricketers in the world,” he said.

Hayden understood that he shouldn’t have said anything negative about the best T20 league in the world and kept quiet.
