Recurve archer Neeraj breaks Tarundeep’s record

Recurve archer Neeraj Chauhan scored 692 points to break Tarundeep Rai’s record of 687 at the National Archery Championships in Gopal Maidan in Jamshedpur on Tuesday. He topped the recurve men’s ranking round.

In the women’s recurve section, Olympian Ankita Bhakat claimed the top spot with 667 points before steering host Jharkhand, also comprises Komalika Bari and Tamanna Verma, to the women’s team final.

Jharkhand overcame a mighty challenge from Maharashtra and registered a 5-3 victory in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, compound archer Abhishek Verma equalled his own national record of 714 to top the compound individual ranking round.

Parneet Kaur showcased her class with a score of 707. Parneet, a member of the World Champion women’s team 2023, came close to the women’s record of 709, held by Jyothi Surekha Vennam.

Meanwhile, husband-wife dup Deepika Kumari and Atanu Das, representing the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, defeated West Bengal 6-2, Andhra Pradesh 5-3 and Madhya Pradesh 6-2 to book a place in the mixed team final.
