Early lunch due to rain on fifth day, India out for 260 runs
There was heavy rain and thereafter no play was possible in the session. The weather forecast for Brisbane from Thursday is largely clear, but the entire game has been affected due to bad weather. Due to rain, play had to be stopped several times on four out of five days. The weather had no impact on the second day of play, as Australia scored 405 for seven thanks to memorable centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Irrespective of the result on Wednesday, India have major concerns in both the batting and bowling departments which they will need to address ahead of the fourth Test starting on December 26.
Barring KL Rahul, India's best batsman on the tour, the star-studded side has not been able to find a way to deal with the Australian fast bowling attack. Captain Rohit Sharma has failed to score runs and superstar Virat Kohli is struggling with the ball outside the off stump after his century in Perth. Most batsmen are guilty of playing away from their body in challenging conditions. He will need to rein in his white-ball tendencies to make an impact at the MCG. Even on the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah has shouldered the heavy responsibility in all the matches. Mohammed Siraj bowled in the Brisbane Test despite a minor injury, which has raised a question mark over his fitness before the Melbourne match.
