Kim Kardashian passes on a rare skin ailment to her son, read here
Kim Kardashian recently talked about a private family issue, stating that she passed on a rare skin ailment to one of her boys.
The star revealed in an interview with the She MD podcast that she has mild vitiligo, just like her son and how her family has been affected by this inherited skin issue for many generations.
Kim on the July 15 episode, said, “This condition was passed down from my mother to me, and now I’ve passed it on to my son in a milder form, he has mild vitiligo.”
But Kim didn’t say which of her two sons, Psalm, 5, and Saint, 8, had vitiligo. She also talked about her two girls, Chicago, age 6, and North, age 11, whom she has with her ex-husband Kanye West. Her son has mild vitiligo and eczema.
“I wasn’t familiar with vitiligo before, but learning about it, understanding its hereditary nature, and being able to share this knowledge has been incredibly valuable,” she added.
White spots appear on the skin due to vitiligo, a persistent skin disorder in which pigmentation is lost. It happens when melanocytes—the cells that give skin its color—are unintentionally attacked by the immune system.
This autoimmune reaction can be brought on by stress, skin trauma, or genetic susceptibility, though its precise etiology is yet unknown. Treatment can help control the condition and stop it from spreading, even though there is currently no recognized cure.
Beyond her son’s illness, Kim is candid about health concerns. She has also been open about her personal struggle with psoriasis, an inflammatory disease that results in skin that is red and scaly.
In an effort to lessen the stigma associated with psoriasis, Kim has often discussed her flare-ups and coping mechanisms. When she disclosed that a flare-up nearly derailed her 2022 Met Gala plans, her candidness about having psoriasis gained particular attention. It almost jeopardized the dress she memorably wore to the Met Gala.
