Former Pakistani drops a brutal assessment of Shubman Gill, Check what he said
India’s got a very disappointed few months for Shubman Gill. The Indian batter was also unable to score in his ongoing Test series against Australia. His style of batting brought a lot of criticism, especially from former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, who believes the kid is devoid of “hunger for runs”. Gill was again unable to score in the third Test match in Brisbane where he was out to a score of 1. Basit said that youngsters like Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal should not look at the struggles of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He added that Gill needs to forget the past and concentrate more on his game.
“Jaiswal and Gill should not see that Kohli is also out. He has performed (at the highest level); Rohit Sharma has performed,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
“You all should be hungry for runs, which you are not unfortunate.”
“Gill ko toh bilkul hi nahi hai bhookh. He loves shot-making, but Test cricket is a test of everything. You need to forget about past (good or bad) performances and think about what is ahead, which unfortunately Gill and others don’t think,” he added.
India were 252 at 9 runs when the bad light brought the day’s play to an end, forcing the Stumps early into day 4 of the third Test against Australia on Tuesday.
Ravindra Jadeja (77) and KL Rahul (84) led India’s fightback which after their dismissals saw Jasprit Bumrah (10) and Akash Deep (27) push the total forward by Akash in memorable innings of 39 not out off 54 deliveries.
But still, India lags 193 runs behind.
Pat Cummins was very much the spearhead for Australia at the bowling crease, with four for 80, and Mitchell Starc bagging three for 83. Nathan Lyon (1/54) also chipped in with a wicket on a day that had Josh Hazlewood out of the match because of an injury.
After a couple of bogged-down sessions of play, India finally had resurrected itself o’er an innings from Jadeja, whose lone hand was all that remained in the company of Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had made 16 runs before being claimed by Cummins in the post-lunch hour that was halved due to rain for just over one hour.
In a previous part of the day, India’s fightback was spearheaded by KL Rahul’s 84 runs at the top of the order. Rahul, along with Jadeja, added a further 67 runs to India’s total.
Resuming from 51 for 4, India failed to avoid early loss by their captain Rohit Sharma (10), but Rahul stood firm at the other end, going to a 17th Test half-century off 85 balls.
The five-match series, as it stands, is currently locked at 1 all.
