20 BJP MPs did not turn up for voting in Lok Sabha, investigation into the absence of BJP MPs continues.

New Delhi. one nation one election voting: Interestingly, despite the whip being issued, 20 BJP MPs remained absent from the Lok Sabha, which sparked discussion. Now the party has taken the absence of these MPs seriously and has sent show cause notices to the concerned. 272 MPs were needed for majority in Parliament. But the government got the support of 269 MPs on this bill, which means it could not cross the majority mark.

This is dangerous for BJP. Understanding the importance of this bill, BJP (one nation one election voting) had issued a 3-line whip to all its MPs in the Lok Sabha a day earlier. It was told that presence in the hall on 17th December 2024 is mandatory. Important bills were discussed in both the houses. When the One Nation, One Election Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, it had to go through the voting process. 20 BJP MPs were absent in this. The absence of BJP MPs during voting is being investigated.

Which MPs were absent?

Giriraj Singh, Jyotiraditya Shinde, CR Patil, Bhagirath Choudhary, Jagdambika Pal, Shantanu Thakur, BY Raghavendra, Vijay Baghel, Udayanraje Bhosale, Jayantkumar Roy, Jagannath Sarkar, Union ministers CR Patil, Bhupendra Choudhary and other MPs said they would join the Lok Sabha. Couldn't because he was in Rajasthan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's event, while some MPs said he had informed the party in advance That he could not attend due to personal reasons.

Must find reasons for absence in the House

A senior BJP leader said that the reasons for absence in the House are definitely being sought. Some MPs have a really good reason. Notice has been issued to all the MPs. 4-5 MPs from BJP's Cooperative Party remained absent.

220 votes were cast in favor and 149 against.

The bill introduced in the House received support from NDA constituents including Chandrababu Naidu as well as parties like YSRCP. Two bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Central Government. This was the first time that voting was done through electronic voting machines in Parliament (one nation one election voting). A total of 369 MPs participated in it. 220 votes were cast in favor of the bill and 149 against it. Following opposition's objection to the process, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla ordered voting on paper. 92 members voted on the paper. In the end, 269 votes were cast in favor of the bill and 198 against it.

Support of 154 members required

The bill requires the support of 361 out of 542 members of the Lok Sabha for approval. Apart from NDA, the government will need the support of YSRCP, BJD and AIADMK. Support of 154 out of 231 members in Rajya Sabha is required. Currently NDA has 114 members, India Alliance has 86 members and other parties have 25 members.
